Just Get Started Already!

What is it that you want in your life and out of life?  Are you sitting there thinking “It’s already too late for me, I’m way behind the curve and I should have started 10 years ago.”  I used to be you!  I used to go about life with a crazy ALL OR NOTHING attitude that held me back.  I have news for you…ALL IN usually leads to NOTHING because you are putting too much pressure on yourself to be the best, do the best, know everything before you start, etc. You are holding yourself back with inertia.

Inertia kills success. Period.
And that’s success in any area of your life, whether it be in your career, in your fitness and nutrition, in your relationships, in your finances, etc.
There have been so many times in life that I’ve felt like I just didn’t know where to begin with a new project, or a new way of living that would be healthier or what have you.  Because of my ALL OR NOTHING attitude, I tried to drastically change my eating habits ALL at once (oh so many times) which would work for a while until one set back at a social gathering and the NOTHING would envelop me in it’s warm french fries and pizza hug and I would predictably go back to old habits.  Backfire!  I tried to pay off debt in big chunks without budgeting only to find myself in the hole again.  Double backfire!  I tried to start rigorous fitness routines only to give up within a week and wake up each morning with a winey “Well, I missed yesterday, so I guess it’s all over with!” AAAND, the triple backfire has ignited the explosive inertia bomb!

I recently had a realization that is so simple I’m almost embarrassed that it didn’t occur to me earlier.  Duh! Just do one thing!  Just take one step toward your goal, any goal, and you will be on your way to achieving said goal.  And gosh darn it if John Maxwell wasn’t right when he said “If you start today to do the right thing, you are already a success, even if it doesn’t show yet.” I will go even further to say that if you wake up tomorrow and do that same thing, you are on your way to consistency and THAT’S where you end up meeting your goals.
So you ate a whole pizza during a Netflix binge? So what! Drink a big glass (or two) of water and go for a walk around the block.
So you spent $300 at Target on clothes you don’t need? Go through your closet and see what you already have that is similar, then take those other things back and use that money towards your credit card bill.
So you never followed up with those leads or new customers? So what! Pick up the phone and call them.
